An ISAT Chamber is a specialized climatic test chamber used primarily for evaluating explosive-filled components in defence product development. The chamber, with a capacity of 7,200 litres, is designed to perform Intensified Standard Alternating Trials (ISAT), which are based on alternations between temperature, humidity, and ambient conditions, including condensation, along with a weekly dry-heat element that simulates tropical desert conditions.
The chamber can perform both ISAT (A) and ISAT (B) tests, which are based on cycling between temperature, humidity, and ambient conditions with condensation, and include a periodic dry-heat phase meant to replicate tropical, desert-like exposure. These two variants allow manufacturers to simulate slightly different environmental stress profiles depending on the testing requirement.
Assessing the performance and shelf life of explosive-filled components is a crucial part of defence product development, and tests such as tropical exposure and Intensified Standard Alternating Trials are the accepted norms for this kind of performance evaluation. This ensures that munitions and explosive components remain safe and reliable even after prolonged exposure to harsh climatic conditions.
The build quality is designed for durability under repeated stress cycles. It features monoblock construction with an outer surface primed with phosphate and finished in RAL 7035 epoxy-based electrostatic powder coating for a wear-resistant, aesthetic exterior, while the interior uses pre-polished, high-gloss AISI-304 stainless steel that is 1.2 mm thick with a reinforced bottom floor to support heavy loads. Around 150mm of PUF insulation is placed between the cell wall and the outer housing to maintain stable internal conditions.
A large observation window, illuminated by a lamp, is included to provide good visibility into the test space, allowing operators to monitor samples throughout the trial without interrupting the controlled environment inside.
